Position Description:

The objective of the Patient Advocate Specialist is to successfully resolve account balances for medical services provided to patients by multiple healthcare facilities by contacting patients via telephone and screening them to determine eligibility for state, county, and federal assistance programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determine the eligibility of patients for State and Federal programs
  • Identify all patient needs and support them in submitting a request for assistance to the relevant State or Federal agency.
  • When feasible, initiate the application procedure.
  • Provide patients with comprehensive guidance on how to obtain all possible program benefits.
  • Complete all essential measures in locating patients and enlist the assistance of field personnel as required.
  • Obtain as much pertinent patient information as possible at the initial interaction.
  • Follow up with assigned accounts until all possible avenues for securing patient benefits have been exhausted or the patient has been authorized for a program and billing information is received.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned or necessary by client agreement


  • Obtaining a diploma or its equivalent is required
  • Prior customer service/call center experience is preferred
  • Prior expertise with medical coding or billing is preferred.
  • PC proficiency and the capacity to type 30 to 40 words per minute
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
