We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our remote team. This role presents an exciting opportunity to lead the migration of a successful, large-scale legacy system to a modern, scalable solution. Extensive backend development expertise, performance optimization skills, and the ability to handle legacy codebases are essential for this role. While the primary focus is on backend work, familiarity with JavaScript and frontend technologies is also required.

Supervision Exercised: Individual contributor

Responsibilities:

• Lead the transformation of the current large-scale system into a modern, scalable solution.
• Maintain, enhance, and optimize existing backend systems for performance and scalability.
• Understand and navigate through existing legacy code, identifying and implementing necessary improvements.
• Collaborate with the existing engineering team to design, develop, and implement new features and enhancements.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer.
• Experience with Google App Engine.
• Proven track record in understanding, migrating, and managing legacy systems.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with functional programming paradigms.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think algorithmically.
• Demonstrated experience in optimizing the performance of backend systems.
• Excellent teamwork skills and effective communication with colleagues across different teams.

Bonus Points:

• Familiarity with JavaScript, React, React-Native, Flutter, and frontend technologies.
• Knowledge of modern cloud architectures and platforms like Google Cloud, Azure, or AWS, including their differences.
• Familiarity with modern containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with functional programming languages is a plus.
• Prior experience in the gaming industry is a plus.
