The Safety Department’s Safety Systems Engineering & Design Team includes this position.

You will be in charge of assisting complicated system-wide projects with the aim of creating, supporting, and directing operational recommendations on system enhancements in order to serve the Safety and Operations business units.

Through research and development initiatives, this job is essential in maintaining a solid and productive connection between the business operations team and development groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Jointly analyze controls inside American Airlines’ systems, processes, and procedures with the operating departments.
  • Use causal analysis to high-profile incidents to find system flaws (Safety, Security, Regulatory)
  • Proactive identification and hazard mitigation in new system design
  • Develop and generate focused proposals for process improvements in collaboration with the operating departments.
  • Work together with the Safety Science team to use predictive analytics to forecast possible outcomes of safety recommendations.
  • Create and deliver powerful presentations for leadership
  • Attend internal and external safety conferences and represent American Airlines Safety there.

Requirements:

Basic requirements include education and previous work experience.

  • Experience in airline operational or operational support, or an undergraduate degree in aviation management, operations, or safety, or equivalent
  • Aviation experience or training (Airports, Flight Ops, Flight Service, Tech Ops, IOC, etc.)

Previous work experience and education are preferred qualifications.

  • Systems-Theoretical Analysis (STAMP/STPA/CAST) education or experience
  • Knowledge of large-scale project management
  • Knowledge of airline rules and regulations
  • Experience leading collaboration at all management levels and making presentations
  • Extensive familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Teams, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

Knowledge, Permits, and Certifications

  • Ability to interact with staff who deal directly with customers, all levels of management, the FAA, business partners, and labor unions in projects involving many divisions and the entire system
  • Good reasoning and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with people at all organizational levels.
  • An organized, self-driven critical thinker with a growth mentality who naturally knows how to prioritize demands from a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to follow through and finish projects as a team member or an individual contributor
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities as well as the capacity to strategically and creatively frame solutions
  • The capacity to coordinate and prioritize multiple complicated deliverables
