Position Description:
Bixal is seeking a Medical Writer/Editor to assist one of our clients with the creation, organization, transformation, management, dissemination, and delivery of consumer-focused, curated health information. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer and editor with medical and/or public health subject matter expertise. A comprehensive understanding of medical and public health content is required.
Requirements:
- Contribute to the overall development and daily maintenance of health topics, medical test monographs, and other content on a consumer health website accessible to the general public.
- Consumer-oriented laboratory, health screening, and diagnostic test content creation and maintenance. The intended audience must be American consumers of general health information. Content must be written at a reading level between 5th and 8th grade and be free of grammatical and typographical errors.
- Write and edit summaries for health topic pages and medical test monographs using a thorough understanding of medical content and the overall needs of the consumer audience.
- Support the annual review, update, and maintenance of medical test monographs, and as needed between annual updates, to meet the changing scientific needs. Laboratory, health screening, and diagnostic tests are described in medical test monographs.
- As needed, complete additional content creation or review tasks for a consumer-facing health website.
- In a timely manner, accommodate all requested edits and revisions.
- All page content must be accurate, current, comprehensive, and objective, and should adhere to established style and content guidelines.
- Keep abreast of health news and make pertinent recommendations for additions to a consumer-facing health website.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required; a degree in medicine or public health communications is preferred.
- Must possess the capability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
- At least two years of experience as an information specialist with subject matter expertise in public health, health information, or a similar field.
- At least one year of experience writing, editing, and evaluating health information, as well as editorial experience reviewing and updating existing content on a consumer health website accessible to the public.
- Knowledge and/or experience with creating/reviewing content pertaining to consumer medical tests.
- Experience adapting medical content to the needs of the consumer audience as a whole.
- Expertise in plain language guidelines.
- Experience working effectively in environments that emphasize collaboration and teamwork. Capability to work independently and collaboratively.
