Building and overseeing the Engineering Standards and Governance initiative to standardize the development of Microservices, APIs, and Integration patterns will fall under the purview of the Director of Engineering. Establish Microservice Design and Implementation Standards by assembling a team of elite architects, developers/DevOps engineers, and product managers. Create a simple governance process to facilitate communication, evangelization, and enforcement of standards using data-driven insights and platform/pipeline automation. To achieve alignment and adoption of these standards, collaborate with the development teams, platform teams, architecture teams, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Grow, create, and coach a senior team that will champion engineering standards for backend services using Cloud Native Technologies, Microservices, and APIs.
  • Increase the adoption of best practices to improve Quality, Consistency, and Reusability of services, including Performance, Observability, Reliability, Resiliency, and Security by working with engineering teams across domains and product areas.
  • Lead the transformation activities to update/migrate existing services by developing the service/API transformation vision and strategy based on the most recent industry standards.
  • Create a roadmap with priorities for building automation to track engineering quality over time and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Utilize your vast and in-depth technical knowledge to guide engineers and act as a leader while tackling difficult technical problems.

Requirements:

  • Having a thorough understanding of Design/Architecture, Development, and Platform/Technologies in Microservice Engineering
  • Outstanding technical, management, and communication abilities, including the capacity to oversee architects, developers, and product managers in a scaled agile environment.
  • Background in managing large, sophisticated, distributed backend systems, including platforms for integrating microservices and APIs, with strong development and architecture skills
  • Experience supporting and delivering highly scalable, dependable, and secure services on a cloud-native platform with demonstrable track record
  • 5+ years of engineering-management experience with a track record of leading senior engineering teams with a minimum of 10 members.

Preferred:

  • Computer science or a related topic master’s degree
  • Prior work in a governance capacity for a sizable technical organization
  • Knowledge of the concepts of CI/CD, DevOps, DevSecOps, and Shift-Left
