This team is in charge of ensuring the smooth operation of all production database systems. We make use of MySql 8.0 operating on CloudSQL from Google Cloud Platform.

Among the responsibilities are, but not restricted to

• To ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security, take the lead and take management of our main database systems.
• Inform the data warehousing team of important data updates.
• Ensure architectural and downstream compatibility by working with both engineering teams and data teams to shepherd schema changes from design to deployment.
• Together with SRE and DevOps teams, create and maintain automated test and deployment pipelines that include large-scale production level data testing.
• actively engage our Cloud Ops staff in identifying vulnerable areas to include in automated monitoring and production alerting.
• Processes should be documented and automated to reduce time spent on repetitive work.
• To satisfy scalability and global uptime needs, evaluate additional database features (and products, if necessary).
• Support, troubleshoot, and carry out RCA on production database problems

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of expertise administering databases at scale (high preference for MySQL/CloudSQL)
• Strong understanding of replication, SQL tuning, and database optimization while minimizing downtime Expert at SQL technicalities, including schema design (MySQL strongly preferred)
• Computer science BS degree or comparable program
• Extra credit for:
• the payment process (or related industry)
