Position Description:

Responsibilities

• Data Center Management
• Develops an awareness of standard methods and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment with guidance and supervision.
• When they do not have the necessary information, they ask questions.
• With the assistance of other technicians, complies with Data Center Services (DCS) business unit and service-level policies, procedures, and deadlines.
• With assistance from other technicians, completes assigned tickets efficiently and in accordance with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), while achieving specified Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Service Provision
• Prepares, stages, configures, and performs basic hardware starts and shutdowns in accordance with specifically specified instructions provided via checklists, guidelines, standard protocols, emails, guidance from other technicians, and management direction.
• Performs basic diagnostics and troubleshooting under the supervision of experienced technicians and using standard methods to determine the source of problems and replace damaged components with minimal customer and company impact.
• Decommissions hardware for minor adjustments and refreshes using standard processes, requesting clarity and direction from more experienced technicians as needed.
• Procedures for communicating, reporting, and escalating incidents to relevant Microsoft data center operations management and Technician Leads are followed.
• Services Administration
• Contributes to issue tracking through escalations by asking questions and seeking direction from more experienced technicians on timely resolution of issues.
• Understands cross-functional processes in order to support collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
• Completes essential role and workload-related training; watches more experienced technicians to get hands-on experience and relevant on-the-job training (OJT); may complete extra training to obtain or maintain relevant role certifications.
• Workplace Environment in a Data Center
• Participates in daily safety briefings, completes mandatory safety training, and follows safety procedures (e.g., equipment use, lifting, electrical dangers, and use of a ladder/rolling stair).
• Complies with security and data management processes and policies under the supervision of other technicians, and completes all essential security training.
• Contributes to a healthy and successful team atmosphere by sharing information with others, participating in frequent team meetings, asking questions and staying up to date on the status of other people’s work, and collaborating with other technicians to complete and/or hand off tickets as needed.

• Has a sense of pride and accountability for the service quality, completeness, and consequent user experience; demonstrates accountability and ownership of data center facilities.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, as well as fundamental knowledge of computer hardware and components, are required, as is 2+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or comparable technology.

Other requirements include:

• This function requires the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening criteria. These criteria include, but are not limited to, the specific security screenings listed below:
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: Upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter, this position will be needed to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check.
• Citizenship Verification: To meet federal government security requirements, this employment requires proof of US citizenship.
• Criminal Justice Information Services: This position may necessitate passing a background check done by authorized local, state, and/or federal authorities using the CJIS criminal justice information system.
