Position Description
Fresh Lifelines for Youth is looking for a Chief Operating Officer to join its organization with a vision to partner with youth, unlock their potential, and advance justice in California and beyond. As a COO, you will be responsible for supporting and coaching executive and senior leaders to integrate core operational functions in a way that paces growth, supports a strong organizational culture, and builds operational efficiencies. You will focus on pacing, stabilization, and efficiency while cultivating an organizational culture that promotes self and community care and connection among staff. The COO will work with other members of the executive team to design and implement FLY’s annual strategic planning process while nurturing personal connections with staff and youth.
Responsibilities
– Lead strategic and tactical operational leadership that supports a strong organizational culture and builds operational efficiencies
– Support executive and senior leaders to integrate core operational functions to pace growth
– Ensure that fundraising, strategic growth, and other external-facing efforts align with internal operations in ways that advance the mission
– Develop and integrate operational policies to reinforce FLY’s culture and values
– Implement strategies related to talent management
– Lead strong financial accounting practices, operational planning, and organizational risk mitigation and compliance
– Maintain a strategic presence in day-to-day operations, including in FLY’s offices and at community and programmatic events.
– Facilitate operational leadership meetings and team lead team efforts to improve operational efficiency and productivity
– Participate in Board governance tasks such as aiding the Board in completing its fiduciary responsibilities during the annual fiscal audit process
– Partner with the CEO to ensure Board of Directors engagement leads to strong governance and effective steering
– Foster collaborative processes across FLY
– Nurture personal connections with staff and youth
Qualifications
– Demonstrable experience managing complex operations.
– Experience serving in an executive role of an organization with similar mission or service population as FLY’s.
– Demonstrable experience managing operations with complex funding streams, including philanthropic and government sources.
– Experience in managing human resource functions and/or other organizational compliance functions.
– Experience in leading or managing finance functions such as financial accounting, analysis, budget building, and budget management.
– Demonstrable experience in managing multiple operational leadership roles or initiatives that have scaled significantly.
– Demonstrable understanding of the ambiguity and complexities that come with operating within a high-growth culture.
– Experience balancing short-term decision-making and sacrifice with long-term goals and gains.
– Experience coaching and supporting leaders with a focus on helping them increase their impact and performance.
– Prior lived experience similar to FLY’s target population.
– Demonstrable understanding of diverse identities and the complexities of intersectionality.
– Leading through an equity lens.
– Ability to engage with Board members and volunteers in a variety of settings.
– Ability to engage institutional government stakeholders, philanthropic partners, and community partners in productive partnerships that advance the mission.
