We are seeking an experienced freelance writer to join our entertainment team at FoxNews.com and FoxBusiness.com. In order to better serve our readers, the freelance writer for entertainment will have years of expertise in journalism and a keen eye for breaking and interesting entertainment news. You ingest content from a broad range of sources and breathe pop culture and news. The entertainment freelance writer can effectively create and generate multiple stories every day that include both original and exclusive news and the news of the day.

Responsibilities:

• Identify, create, edit, and post entertaining and celebrity material fast and effectively so that it appears on the homepage, gets indexed by search engines, and attracts visitors from social media.
• Keep an eye on social media and create sources to aid with breaking news
• Write breaking news and make the required phone calls to lawyers, PR, and law enforcement
• Create attention-grabbing headlines for search engines and use eye-catching graphics for FoxNews.com.
• Write and pitch original content, including celebrity stories and entertainment; adapt original material from outside sources.
• Keep an eye on analytics and change content as needed to ensure that traffic targets are being fulfilled.
• Create fresh, captivating long-form material.

Requirements:

• Two or more years of experience covering entertainment and celebrities for a large national website or magazine
• Preferably, a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a closely connected field of study, or comparable experience
• The capacity to function under pressure in a fast-paced newsroom setting and meet deadlines
• Photoshop proficiency as well as a working grasp of basic photo editing
• Strong copyediting abilities and in-depth familiarity with AP Style
• thorough understanding of the current entertainment and celebrity scene
• Flexibility and the ability to work on certain holidays when necessary; an on-call mindset and readiness to work in emergency situations or during breaking news
• Proficiency in utilizing various CMS platforms
