Position Description

Pearson Virtual Schools is seeking a highly qualified and certified teacher who has a strong background in High School English/Language Arts to join our team. This position is for the 2023-2024 school year, and offers the opportunity to work from our Ripon or San Juan Capistrano offices or from your own home office. As our Virtual High School English/Language Arts teacher, you will play a vital role in “virtually” managing our instructional programs. You will be responsible for consulting regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure their success in completing their instructional program.

Responsibilities

– Develop and execute personalized learning plans and schedules for each student following the instructional program
– Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding
– Asynchronously support the instructional program through the use of web conferencing tools and synchronous instruction
– Provide grading support and create progress reports in a timely manner
– Co-ordinate social activities, relevant field trips, and manage regional field trips ensuring student participation
– Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a “school community”
– Attend student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts that require teacher representation, including overnight stays in the California area
– Participate in the organization and administration of the State Testing as directed, including overnight stays in the California area
– Work with school counselors, teachers, and other support staff to ensure students and families are receiving appropriate communications, students are making adequate progress, and established goals are being met
– Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging all student and parent contacts

Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education from an accredited institution
– Highly qualified and certified to teach High School English/Language Arts in California appropriate to grade level responsibilities
– Single subject credential preferred
– Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft OS and MS Office programs)
– Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
– Customer focused approach
– High degree of flexibility
– Team player track record
– The ability and willingness to travel occasionally for marketing and state testing events
– Ability to work remotely, if necessary
– Ability to work some occasional evening hours as needed to support some families
