Position Description

The University of Iowa Libraries is on the lookout for two Undergraduate Success Librarian. The hired candidates will be working as Specialist Librarian at the Division for Undergraduate Success at the University of Iowa Library. Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Success, the Undergraduate Success Librarian shall be tasked to create affiliations, develop instructional programs, and spread awareness about the library as an academic and nonacademic partner; all to help promote undergraduate student achievement. To support student learning and progression, the Undergraduate Success Librarian will design original library services and instructional programs, especially within the Rhetoric and the General Education curricula, in collaboration with the library staff. The role requires working closely with colleagues to make sure that all the objectives of the University Libraries are achieved through internal and campus-wide committees.

Responsibilities

• Create instructional programs and provide consultation services for undergraduate students, especially within the Rhetoric and the General Education curricula.
• Establish collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students to support student-centered learning.
• Plan and provide instruction for library courses.
• Assess and evaluate the impacts of the undergraduate library efforts.
• Join Libraries and campus initiatives and contribute to other relevant activities and events.
• Provide research support services.
• Participate in relevant library and University-wide activities and committees.
• Represent the University Libraries in campus-wide and inter-institutional initiatives.
• Actively supports the UI Libraries’ commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) in the workplace.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Library or Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent.
• Proven expertise in library instruction, student development, and undergraduate student success initiatives.
• Previous experience with instruction and/or outreach to undergraduates.
• Ability to collaborate in a team environment, demonstrate flexibility, creativity, cooperation, and consultation.
• Ability to lead multiple projects and tasks independently while being deadline-oriented.
• Strong interpersonal arrangement, written and verbal communication skills.
• A clear vison of diversity, equity, access, and inclusion in an academic environment, in a workplace setting, and/or in the community.
• Demonstrated interest in professional development that will improve your value to the Libraries, the University, and the profession.
• Familiarity with information literacy and instructional technology concepts, pedagogies, and assessment, especially assessment of student learning.
• Adeptness in working with undergraduates from multi-cultural backgrounds, ages, socio-economic status, and academic achievements/track record.
• Experience in planning and/or providing instruction.
