Position Description:
You will collaborate with product, engineering, sales engineering, and customer success in this role. You should be enthusiastic about field feedback and requests, learning and documenting new product features, and explaining existing features and workflows concisely and effectively. You should be enthusiastic about investigating and comprehending systems, as well as communicating with peers and colleagues across a wide range of disciplines.
Responsibilities:
- Build and implement a documentation roadmap that strikes a balance between new feature documentation and strategic, long-term improvements.
- Together with Engineering, plan, assist in writing, and review documentation for new product features and functionality.
- Evaluate and shepherd documentation pull requests from engineers, customer success, and solutions engineers.
- Enable others to produce quality documentation through the use of templates, style guides, and a lucid information architecture.
- Identify opportunities for cross-linking between product documentation and user interfaces, tutorials, and marketing materials.
- Collaborate with Education Engineers to align terminology and knowledge, as well as to determine the proper formatting and placement for various types of content.
- Architect cross-department collaboration processes that can scale as HashiCorp grows.
- Plan and coordinate documentation improvement initiatives involving multiple parties.
- Identify documentation problems and gaps, rank them in importance, and implement solutions.
- Develop a logical flow for both existing and new documentation.
- Collaborate with Engineering to develop intuitive naming and labeling standards.
- Mentor less experienced team members.
- Develop into an expert user of HashiCorp products (open source, cloud, enterprise).
Requirements:
- If you have three or more years of demonstrated expertise in technical writing and editing for DevOps tools, you may be a good fit for our team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required and will be evaluated during the interview process.
- Beginning-to-end experience directing ongoing, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Experience organizing information so that it is simple to locate, navigate, and peruse.
- Editing experience with the works of other authors.
- Knowledge of Git, GitHub, or an alternative version control system.
- Establishing and refining processes within a team or organization is a requirement.
- Curiousity and modesty, especially modesty.
- Preferred: hands-on technical field experience
- Optional: Successfully completed any HashiCorp certification exam.
- Experience with Swagger, OpenAPI, or comparable automated documentation systems is optional.
- Experience instructing or educating is optional. This could be as a tutor, mentor, or technical evangelist.
