Job Description: This role is for a Special Education Teacher who is dedicated to the mission of “strengthening the well-being of people with disabilities and their families through innovative supports.” The successful candidate will thrive in a special education school environment, where creativity and passion are essential in providing children with disabilities, such as autism, a comprehensive and enriching learning experience.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to lesson planning within the designated curriculum framework.
- Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team to address the unique needs of each learner.
- Work closely with parents, administrators, language therapists, social workers, behavior specialists, and others to develop individualized educational programs.
- Provide instruction in all academic subjects.
- Train, support, and supervise teaching assistants both in the classroom and within the community.
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and develop Behavior Support plans in coordination with the Behavior Support Team.
- Analyze data to ensure student growth.
- Motivate students, reinforce learning consistently, assess their functioning levels, and provide continuous feedback.
- Directly supervise up to 5 teaching assistants in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Education/Experience:
- Preferred: Master’s degree (M. A.) or equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Alternatively: Bachelor’s degree with related experience and/or training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certificates and Licenses:
- NYS Special Education Teachers Certification in Special Education, Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education, or Literacy.

Additional Requirements:
- A valid New York State Driver’s License and the ability to drive with an acceptable driving record for agency insurance coverage.
- Completion and proficiency in CALM training provided by the school, which includes de-escalation strategies and approved protective holds and movements for students.
