Job Description: Wildwood Programs is a dedicated provider of educational, residential, employment, and community-based support for individuals with disabilities and their families. They are seeking caring and compassionate individuals to join their team in a special education setting, where the focus is on promoting independence, self-esteem, and social integration for students with disabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist students, either individually or in groups, with specialized instructional programs prepared by the teacher to reinforce learning concepts.
- Support teachers in utilizing instructional resources, materials, and equipment suitable for planned learning programs.
- Monitor students’ activities in various settings, including halls, cafeteria, playground, and during arrival and dismissal times.
- Attend to students’ physical needs, such as clothing assistance and personal hygiene.
- Implement behavior management strategies to enhance students’ participation in the educational program.
- Assist with clerical tasks, including attendance, collection of lunch money, organizing materials, equipment, and furniture.
- Provide transportation for students as needed.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certifications: NYS Teaching Assistant Certification OR eligibility to complete and maintain NYS Teaching Assistant Certification.
- Additional Requirements:
- A valid New York State Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record for agency insurance coverage.
- Daily access to a personal vehicle for student transportation when required.
- Completion and proficiency in CALM training provided by the school, including de-escalation strategies and approved protective holds and movements for students.
