PERSONS – 25%
Works together with leadership volunteers, medical staff, researchers, and donors to create persuasive materials that encourage the philanthropic community to support Houston Methodist patient care, research, and medical education programs. Within the Development Communications and other Foundation teams, (EF) acts as a mentor to other authors and project managers. (EF) Conducts interviews with internal and external stakeholders in order to acquire information fast and accurately and create products that are both convincing and educational. gives fundraising staff communications requirements advice and consultation, and takes part in building communications plans. (EF)
25% GOAL SERVICES
Develops content for a wide range of projects in collaboration with the Foundation team and other stakeholders, including but not limited to high-level, creative case statements, proposals, stewardship reports, thank-you letters, appeals, newsletter and magazine articles, and promotional materials. (EF) Assures that the messaging and content are appropriate for the desired target audience, follows up with product enhancements after obtaining feedback on the effectiveness of the collateral. (EF) creates customized written content for various consumers via various media. Uses emotional intelligence and empathy in the right ways to communicate with coworkers and reach audiences outside of one’s immediate circle. (EF)
30% QUALITY/SAFETY
Follows Houston Methodist brand standards for text, images, and design components in all Foundation collateral while writing with consistency in quality, tone, and style. the work product solicits and includes feedback from important stakeholders. As required, you can edit and proofread content for accuracy, impact, and style for Foundation personnel. (EF) Sets priorities, adheres to deadlines, and assures swift turnarounds in a dynamic environment that necessitates continuous communication with a variety of coworkers from different departments. (EF) Ensures that completed writing tasks are logged in content registries for future reference.
BANKING – 5%
efficiently makes use of departmental resources.
15% GROWTH/INNOVATION
actively keeps up with the latest information on writing techniques, institutional priorities, and initiatives connected to the subject matter of fundraising. (EF) Creates new proposals, stewardship reports, and other donor communications in collaboration with Foundation employees, using available case for support materials as resources. (EF) Completes Individual growth Plan (IDP) and actively controls personal professional growth. (EF)

Requirements:
CONDITIONS FOR EDUCATION
A bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, communications, or a similar liberal arts or business profession.
preferred is a graduate degree.
REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPERIENCE
- Five years of expertise in editing and writing for publications.
- Three years of relevant, proven experience in Houston Methodist’s development communications may count toward total years of experience.
- Experience in development communications is preferred.
- Experience conveying scientific or medical knowledge to both large professional and lay audiences is preferred.
- Experience working in a medical or academic setting is preferred.
- Experience creating written materials for nonprofit fundraising initiatives or campaigns is preferred.

- Displays the abilities required to safely complete the specified task, as assessed by ongoing assessments of one’s abilities, competencies, and performance.
- Sufficient knowledge of the English language in speaking, reading, and writing to carry out the fundamental duties of this position, particularly those that have an impact on patient or employee safety or security.
- Ability to interact with patients, doctors, family members, and coworkers in a way that demonstrates a commitment to customer service and the use of positive language principles
- Interaction skills at all organizational levels.
- To work closely with Foundation personnel to create a solid integration of content, concept, and impact, and to manage fluctuating priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Results that have been proven in grant/proposal writing, technical/promotional writing, and project management
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and vocal communication skills
- The capacity to operate independently as well as collaboratively with other team members
- The capacity to obtain information through database research, interviews, etc.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, including the capacity to create content for a variety of audiences and objectives.
- A track record of managing several projects, delivering high-quality outcomes quickly, and working both cooperatively and independently
