Position Description

Confluent is a pioneer in the realm of data infrastructure focused on data in motion. They facilitate real-time data access from multiple sources to stream across organizations. They are seeking for a Senior Product Attorney with significant experience in providing full lifecycle product counseling, including but not limited to the advising of privacy issues, licensing, trademark, patent, and contractual commitments with customers and partners. This position requires the individual to be self-motivated, to have the ability to work independently, collaborate with different teams and colleagues around the world to build systems and processes, and to translate technical and security concerns into non-technical language.

Responsibilities

In this role, the Senior Product Attorney will be responsible for:
– Providing legal review and approval for all new product initiatives
– Reviewing marketing and other product related communications
– Developing playbooks, checklists, training materials, and documentations to facilitate product initiatives and share knowledge with the legal team
– Managing Confluent’s growing IP portfolio including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights.
– Advising the engineering and product team on open-source software use and licensing.

Qualifications

– Minimum 8+ years of relevant legal experience at a top law firm and/or in-house focusing on product, privacy, open source, and/or IP law
– A strong understanding of software technology, open-source software, cloud services, associated business models, and technology industry trends
– Technical background or demonstrated ability to acquire a deep product understanding
– Practical experience working with business copyright and trademark teams, including working with development teams to implement trademark and copyright strategies

Preferred

Qualifications

– Experience working for an open-core company offering both on-prem and SaaS products to business customers
– Hands-on experience working with an engineering team on software development IP issues, including open-source use and licensing.
