The Senior Interior Designer will work their interior design magic to give Disney Cruise Line guests the most unforgettable “Where Magic Meets the Water” experience! Experience working with cruise line interiors is necessary for this specialist position.

The Senior Interior Designer oversees a group of 3-5 interior designers and reports to the Manager, Interior Design.

The interior design of our theme parks’ restaurants, shops, theaters, and attraction lines is the responsibility of the Walt Disney Imagineering Interior Design team. Furthermore in charge of overseeing the design of our hotels and cruise ships. The scope of work includes descriptions of all materials and furnishings in the contract papers as well as conceptual design.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Interior Designer, you could possibly:

  • Under the direction of the Design Manager, perform the duties of a project lead interior designer while working with several business partners, including Disney Cruise Line, ED&E disciplines, Creative, Show/Ride, Design & Production, and Operational Partners.
  • Depending on the scope of the project, you could help the interior designer and project lead with the design and implementation of their assigned projects.
  • By problem-solving and the creation of design solutions, support the implementation of the project’s aims and objectives. maintains compliance with the department’s or division’s Standards of Practice.
  • Respond to and address inquiries from the construction bid period as well as inquiries from the field.
  • As a member of the project design team, support design intent implementation by offering assistance to the project team during project design and implementation.
  • Create diverse interior design project work over the whole project lifecycle, from idea, feasibility, or schematic design through the creation of construction documents, all while adhering to the set departmental and divisional quality standards.
  • Integrate design effectively with related disciplines, such as architecture, lighting, graphics, structural engineering, and MEP, to ensure that the interior design goal is realized.
  • In order to include their requirements into the design, communicate with the Disney Cruise Line Operations, Merchandising, and F&B departments.
  • Under the supervision of a Senior or Principal ID, responsible for the design and production of cruise line state rooms, public areas, shops, restaurants, or themed areas.
  • By assisting with project design development and technical documentation, support diverse initiatives.
  • Provide design documentation for assigned projects in the form of imagery boards, color renderings, graphic illustrations, and research and documentation.
  • Execute a variety of fundamental technical duties, including color and material design and documentation, fundamental CAD support, and FF&E design and specifications.
  • While cruise ships are docked, you can anticipate periodic overseas travel for the oversight of FFE installation and vendor supervision.

Requirements:

What you’ll need to succeed in this position is as follows:

  • A minimum of seven years of interior design experience is required, along with four years of success as an interior designer on significant cruise line projects.
  • An interior design team for the creation of building contract paperwork for at least two years.
  • Experience with the submittal/shop drawing review process and on-site field inspections throughout the construction phase is preferred.

Preferred credentials:

It would be fantastic if you had:

  • Prior experience in interior design for public areas, eating areas, and staterooms on cruise ships.
  • The capacity to work well in a multidisciplinary team context.
  • Conceptual design abilities and the ability to guide a team to capture their original ideas.
  • CAD expertise and the ability to lead their team in the project’s electronic documentation.
  • Being able to manage construction packages, lead a team in detailing collaboration with other disciplines, and have working understanding of construction paperwork.
  • Color perception and practical familiarity with materials suitable for use in Disney theme parks and resorts. Should be familiar with the FF&E specification requirements.
  • Working understanding of Word, Excel, and CADD, as well as, if relevant to their area of expertise, Sketchup, Adobe Suite, and BIM

Education:

  • A diploma from an interior design program that has been accredited. (Preferably a four-year curriculum)
  • It is recommended for employees at this level to have passed the NCIDQ exam.

The work for this position will be done in person Monday through Thursday in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, with the possibility of working remotely on Friday.
