What you intend to do

  • Does day-to-day entry analysis to ensure that American Airlines (AA) complies with Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) Importer Self-Assessment (ISA) standards, as outlined in Code of Federal Regulations CFR 19
  • Classifies AA’s operations using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Schedule B, and ECCN on a daily basis.
  • Interacts with all internal and external departments involved in product import and export, as well as internal and external legal departments, CBP, and custom brokers.
  • Assigns categories and does research on CBP decisions and Explanatory Notes.
  • Identifies and addresses all FDA/FCC/EPA/ETC regulation requirements for imported items.
  • AA’s Customs Manuals are updated and maintained.
  • Performs pre- and post-entry audits and makes necessary changes
  • In charge of the Post Entry Amendment Program
  • Responds to CBP and other government agencies’ enquiries
  • Responds to Customs Broker queries and troubleshoots import cargoes
  • Prepares requests for binding rulings for submission to CBP
  • Coordination of internal departmental audits to ensure that business policies are followed
  • Ensures that all Importer Security Filings (ISF) for inbound maritime freight are accurately and timely submitted by the customs broker.
  • Internal clients are educated and trained on import regulations.

Everything you’ll need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience
  • three years of relevant experience
  • Education and prior job experience are preferred qualifications.
  • 4 years of trade compliance experience with the HTSUS and CFR19
  • Experience with Schedule B and ECCN categorization
  • Expertise in supply chain management, logistics, hazardous chemicals, in-flight items, or aircraft maintenance is preferred.
  • Substantial categorization expertise determining HTS numbers using the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI) and Harmonized Tariff Schedule, as well as CBP decisions and explanatory comments.
