Responsibilities:
The technical supervision of customer engine fleets operating under maintenance agreements with Delta Technical Operations is the responsibility of the Principal Engineer MRO Engine Programs. Working closely with the MRO program manager, this job makes sure that both parties fulfill their technical requirements under the contracts while maximizing benefit to Delta. In coordination with Engine Technical Services/Propulsion Operations engineers, the selected applicant will be accountable for validating customer operating statistics (derate utilization, flight hour to cycle ratio, etc.) and granting consent for engine removals.
- Work together with Engine Technical Services to keep an eye out for any trends in poor engine health and spot chances for action to increase engine time on the wing (such as Engine Wash and predictive component alerting).
- Identify potential commercial risk factors and offer reporting to DTO leadership while keeping track of engine performance metrics.
- Engages with the product OEM, keeps track of market developments, service bulletins (on and off-wing), and promotes the deployment of positive communications.
- Maintain a forward-looking 12-month engine removal schedule for program engines, including planned and unforeseen removal drivers (such as MPD borescopes), and inform the MRO and Finance teams of any potential schedule risks or operational consequences.
- On the basis of shop observations and fleet performance, provide workscope control oversight for program engines and update or improve the customer-specific Workscope Planning Guide.
- Work along with Delta’s engine maintenance IPTs to identify program optimization possibilities and risks, such as repair opportunities and scrap salvaging
- Benchmark program engine pass off test results against DL and industry experience, minimizing negative trends, and optimizing workscope maintenance levels to customer operation
- Follow Delta’s Technical Operations Policy and Procedures (TOPP) and any FAA, OSHA, and EPA standards when developing and repairing equipment.
- When doing all operational processes and procedures, adopt safety-conscious behaviors.
Requirements:
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM)
- A mechanical engineering or aerospace/aeronautical engineering bachelor’s degree is necessary.
- Equivalent qualifications include an Airframe and Powerplant License and 10–15 years of experience in a technical aviation-related field, with 4–6 of those years spent inside an aviation engineering organization.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to multitask, analytical talents, organizational abilities, and time management skills are required.
- The candidate will benefit from prior experience with the following areas: FAR 145 repair operations, turbine engine design and repair, fleet management, engine flight hour/cycle agreements, and turbine engine design and repair agreements.
- Candidates should also be qualified in line maintenance and have completed the Delta Airframe or Engine Initial Training course (only for internal candidates).
