Thumbtack, a virtual-first company, is seeking an Employment Counsel to support its legal team in managing risks across the business while remaining consistent with their mission. The Employment Counsel will ensure the company’s performance by mitigating risks in employment-related matters specifically. The successful candidate will provide legal advice, manage employment-related projects, and work collaboratively with various teams while communicating business and legal risks effectively.

Responsibilities

– Provide legal counsel and support on employee terminations, performance management, investigations, accommodations, and other employment-related matters
– Coordinate and manage employment-related projects, including internal process reviews, new policy roll-outs and implementation, regular policy updates, and training programs
– Draft and edit employment-related documents, correspondence, agreements, and processes
– Provide support on privacy and cybersecurity initiatives
– Manage legal risks while providing business-oriented solutions
– Communicate and collaborate effectively across teams and various roles to educate colleagues about business and legal risks while enabling Thumbtack’s success

Qualifications

– J.D. with a minimum of 5 years’ legal experience (in-house experience is a plus)
– Labor and Employment experience
– Exposure to privacy and cybersecurity laws and compliance
– Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and written/verbal communication skills
– Good judgment and the ability to balance risk and productivity in a business environment
– Independently motivated, while collaborative in execution
– Ability and openness to receive constructive feedback and act on the same
