Utilizing economics, behavioral science, statistics, and machine learning, the Central Science Team at Amazon’s People Experience and Technology organization (PXTCS) proactively identifies mechanisms and process improvements that enhance Amazon and the lives, well-being, and value of work to Amazonians. We are an interdisciplinary team that brings together the expertise of engineering and science to create and implement solutions that measurable attain this objective.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Principal Economist who can give complicated business challenges a framework, refine those complex problems into focused, scientific questions, and then test those questions to produce new insights. Working with diverse scientific, engineering, operations, and analytics departments, the ideal applicant will estimate models and algorithms on massive amounts of data, create pilots and assess their effects, and turn successful prototypes into scaled-up policies and initiatives. They will oversee the production of solid, impartial research findings and insights that can be shared with a wide range of people both inside and outside of Amazon.
The best applicants will collaborate closely with industry partners to create science that addresses the most significant business problems. They’ll function well in a group environment with people of different specializations and experiences. They will act as a resource for business teams and an ambassador for science, ensuring that scientific methods are integrated into the HR department for the good of Amazon employees and Amazon itself. The best applicants will be in charge of developing scientific models and overseeing the modeling, data analysis, and experimentation required for model estimation and validation. They will be customer-focused, effectively conveying scientific methods and discoveries to corporate executives, paying attention to and taking into account their input, and providing effective scientific solutions.
Requirements:
PRIMARY QUALIFCATIONS
- – Doctorate in quantitative marketing, statistics, economics, or a similar discipline.
- – Over ten years of expertise in the commercial, public policy, or statistical analytic fields; – Proficiency in modeling, data mining, and large-scale data set handling.
DESIDERED SPECIFICATIONS
- – A track record of success in using methods from economics or related fields to the study and resolution of business problems.
- – Proven expertise in one or more of the following applied economics fields (multiple fields preferred): forecasting, hazard models, health and insurance economics, education economics, labor economics, behavioral economics, reduced-form causal analysis, predictive modeling, and causal machine learning algorithms; designing and implementing large-scale social science surveys.
- – Proven capacity to manage a group of data scientists and economists to provide excellent research outcomes on schedule.
- – Proven capacity to explain research to clients in public policy and/or business.
- – Proven track record of presentations and publications in prestigious statistical, public policy, economic, and machine learning journals and conferences.
- – Outstanding oral and written communication abilities with experts in technology, business, and public policy, as well as the capacity to talk at an audience-appropriate volume.
