Position Description
Sierra Club is seeking a skilled Director of Creative Content to join our Communications department. The ideal candidate possesses a growth mindset, can lead creative strategies, and positively influence change. As a Director of Creative Content, you will be responsible for developing wrap-around creative and story-based content strategies that support the Sierra Club’s values and goals, improve reach, address critical campaigning moments, and foster engagement opportunities. This role will oversee the Design Team, Production Team, and the Colby Library, provide mentorship to managers, align with the direction of Sierra Club’s brand, and direct and facilitate the development of integrated content strategies. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, have excellent writing skills and great attention to detail, and be able to motivate their team.
Responsibilities
-Leadership: Work closely with the Deputy Chief of Communications to develop creative concepts that match up with Sierra Club’s values and 2030 Strategic Framework. Provide direction for integrated content strategies cohesively driving Sierra Club priorities. Ensure creative team goals are established and give leadership in cross-departmental planning spaces, collaborating with the teams to deliver organizational goals.
-Strategy: Develop and direct the implementation of creative content strategies that focus on brand building, supporting chapters and staff, creating field engagement opportunities, and contributing to the delivery of campaign and policy outcomes. Provide leadership for the development of dissemination and promotion strategies for all content and projects. Measure both qualitative and quantitative data for these strategies.
-Growth: Do research on new developments in digital delivery, visual storytelling platforms, and cultural trends. Stay informed of trends by outreaching to grassroots volunteers and staff of Sierra Club. Cultivate this knowledge in your team and share best practices across the organization.
-Management: Manage a team of managers, including assigning work, preparing and conducting formal performance planning and evaluation, recommending hiring and promotions, budget management, plus giving creative and editorial feedback on projects and coaching managers in the same. Manage coordination with Operations and Legal/Finance staff on all department contracts relating to design, video projects, or library projects. Ensure your team is updated on and in alignment with all creative licensing, Sierra Club compliance, and legal requirements.
Qualifications
-Creative Leadership: Hold knowledge and background on print, digital, social, and web as part of integrated content, brand, narrative and organizing strategies. Direct successful outcomes for your team while performing hands-on work as needed. Have strong writing, editing, storytelling, design and presentation skills.
-Strategy and Growth Mindset: You come up with creative ideas and develop strategies and innovative solutions. Able to grow the identity of the organization through creative content and strategies.
-Team Management: Have both team management skills and emotional intelligence, ability to motivate teams, drive accountability, give and receive feedback, and encourage a positive team culture.
-Project Management: Develop and run high-level strategies with effective project management, stakeholder engagement, communication, and cross-functional skills.
-Leading on Equity: Have solid knowledge of equity analysis and practice, have embedded justice and equity throughout team/department.
Compensation and Benefits:
The Director of Creative Content earns up to $145,000 USD annually and is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) coverage. This job is exempt and non-represented.
