Position Description:

As a Data Scientist, you will be working in a genuine big data environment, solving hard technological problems with the help of other subject matter experts and collaborating with other teams to support Verizon’s 2.0 objectives. You will deliver corporate value through business intelligence reporting and analytics by driving insights to actions using your analytical, big data, and reporting experience. You can confidently convey your insights and have the leadership characteristics to teach other teams how to examine data. You’ll also link several data locations to stage data before visualizing it. Your business insights and recommendations will aid in performance improvement.

  • Making use of data visualization and other advanced analytics methods to provide internal strategic direction or to advise decisions for other teams.
  • Leading the design and development of analytics products using modern analytics methods including as simulations and predictive modeling.
  • Providing clear and straightforward analytical solutions through multiple means, with quantitative and qualitative analysis serving as the foundation of that work.
  • Creating data narratives, viewpoints, and leadership team suggestions.
  • Leading cross-functional teams to deliver analytics products from concept to market launch.
  • Data mining, query construction, and development from multiple source systems.

You’ll need the following items:

  • A bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience are required.
  • Six years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Understanding of visualization software such as Tableau, ThoughtSpot, and Qlik.
  • Data query and manipulation skills utilizing SQL or comparable tools.
  • Willingness to travel for up to 25% of the time.

It’s even better if you have at least one of the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science, or economics is required.
  • Knowledge of visual science and dashboard design ideas.
  • Experience with Tableau or a comparable visual analysis tool, optimization, analytics, and huge data sets, project management, and the creation of visually appealing interactive dashboards are all desirable.
  • Experience using statistical concepts and methods to data sets in order to solve business problems.
  • Database fundamentals (Oracle, MS SQL, generic SQL, etc.) are required.
  • Data warehouse and data lake technology (Teradata, Hadoop) knowledge is required.
  • Understanding of third-party analytic tools.
  • General purpose programming language experience (Java,.Net, Python, Perl, etc.).
  • Experience with Windows, Linux/Unix shell scripting tools.
  • Knowledge of data aggregation technologies such as SPLUNK.
