A copy editor is needed by Disney Publishing Worldwide to edit and proofread fiction and nonfiction books for readers of all ages on a project-by-project basis. This group will assist Marvel Press, Hyperion Avenue, and Disney Hyperion.
Responsibilities:
- A copyeditor checks the language, spelling, and style of both shorter (picture books, chapter books, and short stories) and larger (middle grade, young adult, and adult novels) manuscripts to ensure that they make sense and flow smoothly.
- Proofreads books at all stages to ensure that desired changes and corrections have been made.
- Creates and updates staff and author style guides
- Please be aware that there are no guaranteed hours for this role; tasks are assigned as needed, project by project.
Requirements:
- 3 years of copyediting experience, especially with some knowledge of children’s or young adult literature
- The capacity to multitask, adhere to deadlines, and operate independently
- Knowledge of literature, grammar, style, and spelling at the college level
- Meticulousness in the details
- Having the ability to use Word and Adobe applications to work with digital documents
- Familiarity with the 17th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style, as well as experience using a house style and specific series rules and nomenclature
- Editing proficiency in Spanish preferable
- Weekday availability during regular business hours
The hourly pay for this remote position ranges from $26.50 to $32.00. Depending on company needs, the weekly timetable may change. Internal equity will be taken into consideration when determining the basic pay that is actually offered, and it may also change based on the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, abilities, and experience, among other things. Depending on the level and job offered, the remuneration package may include a bonus and/or long-term incentive units in addition to the complete range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
