In an effort to encourage student perseverance, enhance retention rates, and facilitate enrollment expansion, the advisor offers general advice and assistance to students. In order to properly counsel students and make sure they achieve their academic objectives, this position will develop close bonds with students and encourage candid dialogue.

In order to address the needs of all students, the advisor will establish and maintain cooperative, cross-departmental connections with academic staff, career services, admissions, and central services within the university. Furthermore, by exhibiting a dedication to Rasmussen University’s goal, vision, and culture-based competences, the Advisor will consistently operate in an ethical manner. The advisor will work to foster a culture that values diversity and fosters understanding, acceptance, and respect of it.

Responsibilities:

  • The advisor interacts with students to encourage continued academic performance, increased enrolment, and persistence. This can involve being the student’s main point of contact for any issues pertaining to their needs, acting as a liaison between them and the requested student service area to ensure a prompt resolution is obtained, or offering pertinent educational advice. It can also involve pointing students in the direction of the proper self-serve resource.
  • Creates and updates quarterly calendars for students, offering guidance on course sequencing to help them achieve their academic objectives in college.
  • Performs quarterly audits of student academic progress (SAP), which encompass a range of tasks such as calculating and projecting GPA and CCR. proactively oversees their timetable, outreach, and general academic progress.
  • Acknowledging the challenges of college life and the individual barriers that students face in their pursuit of a degree, the advisor aims to foster self-assurance by offering motivation and assistance during the advisory process.
  • Tracks and records student progress and advising actions using the student information system (SIS).
  • Provides answers to common inquiries about payment plans, excess fund issue, and ledger card entries.
  • Explains how the student’s credit load affects both the amount of financial help awarded and tuition.
  • Carries out proactive, ongoing outreach to students to improve their performance throughout their lives. To assist in this endeavor, departmental collaboration is cultivated, and patterns in student success data are audited.
  • Aids in the creation of plans that take student retention statistics into account.
  • Keeps aware of and strictly adheres to all policies, regulations, and codes of behavior issued by the institution, the government, and accreditation agencies.
  • Uses time and resources wisely, sets priorities for tasks, and maintains attention in the face of distractions.
  • Exhibits a high degree of integrity in all of their dealings with staff members and children by being mindful of the policy’s stated expectations and intended purpose.
  • Fosters and promotes a supportive team atmosphere both on campus and throughout the company.
  • Contributes actively to the learning environment and the collaborative experience for staff and students; offers suggestions and constructive criticism that is appropriate to help the university make decisions and improve processes.
  • Shares equal responsibility for supporting school and community events both on and off campus, such as staffing the campus welcome area, assisting with career fairs, graduation ceremonies, and student orientations, in order to foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Participate in community service projects funded by the university that further the organization’s goals.
  • Keeping up-to-date basic knowledge about all offered programs, affiliations, accreditation of programs and institutions, general learning objectives, typical career options, and industry perspective.

Reporting Connections:

  • Under the Associate Director of Student Advising, the Advisor is accountable.

Requirements:

  • It’s necessary to have a bachelor’s degree from an approved school.
  • The capacity to work a flexible schedule, which may occasionally include weekend and nighttime hours.
  • One year of experience in customer service, counseling, advising, or a similar profession
  • Adept with the Microsoft Office suite; a background in student information systems is preferred
  • Capacity to operate both alone and jointly as a team member and with other departments both in person and virtually
  • Strong planning, organizing, coordination, and multitasking abilities
  • Demonstrated client care in a formal setting
  • Needs to be solution-focused, adaptable, self-motivated, and patient.
  • Powerful interpersonal abilities to communicate with peers, teachers, and other pupils
  • Strong oral and written English language proficiency is required.
