Position Description
Blavity Inc. is looking for a skilled Social Media Managing Editor to handle content development and programming, with the responsibility of creating original and editorially inspired content for all major social media platforms. This position is full-time and remote, requiring experience in short-form social video editing, scripting, and a passion for Black culture. Responsibilities
– Lead a team that manages cross-platform productions from beginning to end, including editorial writers and content marketers.
– Collaborate with the Director of Content and Programming to plan and execute monthly content strategy on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
– Tell stories through compelling TikTok/IG content that drives high engagement value from the audience.
– Build effective relationships with colleagues throughout Blavity to support synergy across the organization’s owned and operated brands.
– Collaborate with the Audience Development and Data Analytics teams to maximize the stories and post reach and ensure the brand meets-site wide growth goals.
– Support the team with planning and project management for content initiatives, including the annual AfroTech and other forthcoming team tentpoles and identify news pegs and opportunities to repromote archival stories.
– Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
– A B.A. in Journalism or related field is required.
– 5+ years of content creation production experience is required.
– Strong knowledge of design elements and principles, and systems of graphic design.
– 2+ years of content development for Gen-Z and Millennial demographics is preferred.
– Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Asana, and/or comparable project management suite.
– A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture.
– Independent, entrepreneurial self-starter who is comfortable taking on a high level of responsibility.
– A strong interest in viral marketing and social media trends – Knowledge of, passion for, and experience with social-media platforms, both established and emerging including but not limited to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
– Experience with analytics and listening tools.
– Ability to manage multiple projects at once and work in a fast-paced environment.
– Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate project needs and timelines clearly and effectively.
– High-energy, company-first, positive attitude; must be motivated to work hard in a fast-paced environment.
– Excellent communication and analytical skills; outgoing and sociable; willing to wear multiple hats.
