Responsibilities:
If you join our team as a Senior Software Engineer (SE1), you will:
- Identify and oversee challenging technical projects for an engineering team while assisting team members in planning and carrying out their work.
- Directly participate in the creation of our products’ designs and code, setting an example for Amex’s approach to creating excellent software.
- Assume accountability for the scalability, extensibility, security, and dependability of our program and make sure it complies with our SLAs.
- Drive solid technical judgment within our team and take the lead in technical discussions with other engineering teams.
- Mentor young team members and assign tasks that enhance their abilities
Requirements:
- As a senior engineer, you’ve been putting complicated software projects into practice in a range of commercial and technological situations.
- You want to work as a staff engineer or principal engineer.
- You have a lot of expertise creating intricate systems that have a big influence on company.
- You have helped with the planning and construction of cloud-native software built in Java, Go, or another contemporary programming language, and you are eager to pick up new skills as required.
- You’ve used at least one cloud service provider, ideally AWS.
- You are adept at compiling and analyzing user reviews and program usage data.
- You are skilled at providing and receiving helpful criticism from coworkers, team members, and superiors.
- You excel at multi-functional work, and you enjoy the respect of your coworkers at all levels and in all teams.
- You are at ease working in issue spaces with ill-defined boundaries, and you may choose where to focus your efforts to best achieve objectives.
At Amex, we employ the following technologies:
- On the server, Go, Java, and JavaScript are used, with Kotlin and TypeScript beginning to gain traction.
- In the browser, respond
- A CI/CD pipeline based on GitHub Actions sends code from GitHub Enterprise to production.
- Code is executed in Docker containers managed by Kubernetes and hosted in a combination of private and public clouds.
- GraphQL, gRPC, Kafka, Terraform, Postgres, Couchbase, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Redis, OpenTracing, Jaeger, Prometheus, and Grafana are further essential technologies.
- In this position, you have the option of working entirely on-site or in a hybrid setting, visiting a technological campus sometimes (about twice every two weeks). We’ll have teams scattered throughout the US and the UK.
Salary: from $110,000 and $190,000 per year, plus bonuses and benefits
