Responsibilities:

30% of the new feature writing for the product

  • Observes others to learn how to write thorough document plans for upcoming feature writing assignments.
  • Just figuring out the best way to gather data to document new features
  • When documenting a feature, pairs with experienced writers to learn how to advocate for new users and raise questions of the PM

Writing documents and projects: 20%

  • Helps other authors with their document initiatives
  • Effectively manages time and starts to recognize when to voice concerns about unclear or contradicting information

Resolving persistent problems -40%

  • Resolves problems and inquiries with the assistance and direction of peers
  • Requires assistance in formulating technical inquiries and knowing when to pose them.
  • Recognizes which product categories are related with various PMs and DX advocates and brings them into the discussion when needed
  • Asks for guidance on how to prioritize issues and may already have a fixed priority

Reviewing by peers: 10%

  • Starts evaluating peer work with another writer; on occasion, finds holes in the pull request under review and expresses issues about them.
  • Provides direction and rephrasing ideas
  • Starts to match recommendations with our style manual
  • Advocates for users on occasion when examining pull requests

Requirements:

Essential:

  • One to three years of experience as a technical writer for a formal documentation team or for another role
  • Ability to organize, set priorities, and complete minor projects under the guidance of a peer with great attention to detail Ability to provide and receive editorial and technical comments in a caring manner
  • Clearly and succinctly communicates, particularly while working in a distributed team or asynchronously

  • Familiarity with data or DBT
  • Prior experience collaborating with teams, editors, and other writers
  • worked asynchronously in a distributed team that was completely remote.
  • Possessing prior experience managing or contributing to open-source projects is advantageous.
