Position Description
American Institutes for Research (AIR) is looking for a Researcher to join their Learning, Translation and Quality Measurement Program in the Health division. The successful candidate will work towards providing equitable, high-quality, and affordable patient-centered healthcare through research, evaluation, and technical assistance. As the Researcher, you will focus on patient, family, and community engagement within healthcare systems to create patient-centered care, which addresses inequities in healthcare for marginalized and excluded groups. The responsibilities of the role include providing technical leadership in research, implementation, evaluation, and technical assistance projects focused on equity-centered patient and family engagement to improve healthcare quality and safety, measurement, and research. Additionally, you will prepare technical reports and manuscripts describing findings and support business development activities, manage budgets and timelines, manage client relationships, and contribute to dissemination activities.
Responsibilities
– Provide technical leadership in research, implementation, evaluation, or technical assistance, including strategic project plans, research, evaluation and/or TA designs.
– Lead and support tasks like conducting literature searches, qualitative and/or quantitative data collection, and analysis and providing technical assistance.
– Prepare technical reports and manuscripts describing findings for technical and general audiences.
– Engage in business development activities like cultivating relationships with potential clients and peers, managing or writing proposals and budgets.
– Provide feedback, guidance, and mentoring skill development of research assistants and associates.
– Manage budgets and timelines effectively for projects and tasks.
– Manage client relationships, including ongoing communication with clients, understanding and addressing client requirements and troubleshooting client concerns.
– Contribute to dissemination activities like presentations, conference posters, issue briefs, technical reports, and manuscripts for various audiences.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
– Ph.D. degree or M.A., M.S., or M.P.H. or equivalent degree in health economics, health services research, social science, evaluation research, or public health.
– 0-3 years of related experience with a Ph.D. or 4-7 years of related experience with an M.A/M.S/M.P.H.
– Experience implementing and/or conducting research on patient and family engagement to improve healthcare quality and safety, measurement, or research.
– Conducting quantitative and/or qualitative research, including research design, quantitative, and/or qualitative data collection and analysis.
– Experience in conducting Spanish-language interviews and focus groups is desired but not required.
Skills:
– Strong writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and manage feedback from multiple reviewers.
– Demonstrated management skills, including the ability to lead small and medium-sized tasks and proposals, work on teams under the leadership of other staff, and direct and mentor staff members.
– Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

– Effective time management skills.
– Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
– Strong attention to detail and work ethic.
