The Project Manager oversees and directs various initiatives including scientific content and research as a member of the Scientific Affairs team. Work assignments will include, but not be limited to, supporting member-led research projects administratively, helping members write and review manuscripts and publications, reviewing documents, participating in advisory committees, and providing scientific content as a resource for association staff.
Responsibilities:
- To make sure that deadlines and deliverables are met, manage the assigned scientific projects, including administration of project schedules, timelines, accountabilities, and meeting documentation.
- The planning and organization of scientific projects or advisory boards, including articles, grants, research reports and proposals, presentations, guidelines, and other materials as allocated, may require sophisticated scientific or technical details and specialist language.
- Involvement in project management and administrative support for designated committees and/or subcommittees as the co-staff liaison.
- Support the development of scientific and medical content for grants, proposals, and projects, maintain pertinent committee webpages, and produce educational materials for new committee members.
- Co-create and produce scientific content for the Corporate Roundtable with the Development team.
- Prepare scientific content for inclusion in funding submissions and grant applications in collaboration with internal departments (Marketing & Communications and Education).
- Assist with administrative tasks and conference planning for the CAP/AMP/Company guidelines project.
- Organize and manage a pilot project for the Company Staging initiative and the use of electronic medical records (EMRs).
- Keep leadership, staff, committee chairmen, and other stakeholders informed of project status on a regular basis.
- To improve job productivity and standardize departmental processes and workflows, use organizational and project management tools and software, such as WorkZone and Sharepoint.
Requirements:
Education
A Master’s degree in science, public health, medicine, or a closely related discipline from an authorized college or university. A PhD with equivalent expertise is required, as is a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in a project management, clinical, research, or comparable scientific or academic function.
Preferred credentials:
- Background in science or medicine, or expertise in oncology or lung cancer.
- Prior job experience in a research, academic, scientific, or nonprofit institution.
- Experience with or certification in project management is a bonus. MS or a PhD are required.
Knowing, Doing, and Capability:
- Working familiarity with current developments and new trends in thoracic oncology research and therapies.
- A project management mindset is necessary to ensure the timely completion of project-related tasks. This mindset includes the capacity to view the big picture, anticipate and plan for next stages, and manage stakeholder communication.
- Ability to successfully manage a variety of concurrent projects at various levels of development or advancement in order to meet deadlines and milestones.
- Must be extremely organized, pay close attention to detail, and possess good time management and organizational abilities as well as the capacity to multitask in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to work professionally and efficiently with staff and members; cooperative, upbeat attitude.
- Must be a strong communicator both orally and in writing, especially in the field of science.
Minimum requirements:
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in a project management, clinical, research, or academically related position.
- Ability to handle scientific committees and/or projects, including timeframes, timetables, and paperwork, with a clear sense of priorities.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and common office tools, as well as the aptitude to swiftly pick up new software.
- Knowledge in using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or other similar conferencing technologies to host and run online conferences and meetings.
