Position Description:

Google’s projects, like our users, span the globe, necessitating managers who can see the large picture while delving into the individual engineering difficulties we confront on a daily basis. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you use your engineering knowledge to lead large, multi-disciplinary engineering projects. You collaborate with internal customers to plan requirements and guide projects through the whole project lifecycle. This covers project schedule management, risk identification, and properly communicating risks to project stakeholders. You’re equally at ease articulating your team’s analysis and suggestions to executives as you are with engineers discussing technical trade-offs in product development.

Responsibilities

  • Implement communication standards across a program portfolio, including executive and key partner communications.
  • Establish a consistent and visible cycle for program evaluations, decision-making, prioritization, and Resource Stewardship (efficient deployment of machine and human resources), so that improvements like efficiency and utilization gains can be seen and felt across the organization.
  • Establish a governance system that promotes successful executive decision-making. Ascertain that the governance structure properly identifies and mitigates dependencies.
  • Seek and discover change management opportunities that will boost program velocity and have an impact on numerous teams. Use governance to guarantee that change management is used properly.
  • Define and manage a program portfolio that solves problems with high business impact for the company and product area.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or comparable practical experience is required.
  • 5 years of leadership experience with/without direct reports.
  • 4 years of project management experience.
  • 8 years of experience working in infrastructure.
  • 8 years of management experience in cross-functional/team initiatives.
  • 5 years of supervising experience is required.
