Position Description:

Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) unites American Express’ merchant and network-related operations. This position will be a key member of the Payment Consulting team, which provides global support to the GMNS business by executing go-to-market strategies, deploying new and emerging payment technologies, and ensuring a seamless transaction processing experience.

Among the key responsibilities are:

  • Promote acceptance channel preparation for important strategies (e.g., AXP debit), including the creation of a strategy, roadmap, execution plans, success metrics, and the empowerment and equipping of a team to help merchants, processors, and partners.
  • Lead, manage, and grow a high-performing team with extensive knowledge of US debit, storytelling and influencing abilities, and execution management.
  • Develop a strategy to increase expertise across teams in order to meet the diverse needs of their merchants and partners.
  • Create a mechanism for prioritizing, triaging, and reporting on opportunities to enhance the Cardmember experience.
  • Provide thought leadership and the customer voice to the advancement of AXP strategy.
  • Develop and capitalize on positive connections with key AXP collaborators such as the network, issuance, legal, and relationship management teams.
  • Keep comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the payment services industry, market trends, new and existing technologies, goods, and services.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in the merchant processing/acquiring payment business is necessary.
  • Thorough knowledge of acceptance channel processing, technology, and experience requirements, including routing of US debit cards, is essential.
  • Good strategic skill set, with demonstrated ability to negotiate ambiguity to establish structure, ask insightful questions, and synthesize complex information into clear suggestions and direction.
  • Excellent work ethic along with adaptability and flexibility to change.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies to generate results that are aligned with business goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, as well as the ability to communicate complicated issues in a straightforward non-technical manner.
  • Deep interpersonal relationship management abilities with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of intellectual curiosity, initiative, drive, and attention to detail.
  • 3+ years of people management experience and a demonstrated ability to grow team members both individually and collectively.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving choices across organizational and level boundaries, as well as leading and creating results with or without authority.
  • Travel within the United States may be required.
  • A graduate degree is preferred.
