An expansive Houston-based energy corporation is seeking an accounting lead for a primarily remote position (2–3 remote days/week). can take a seat outside the offices in the Greenway Plaza, Magnolia, or Hobby areas. A degree is necessary.
The accounting lead will be knowledgeable in internal controls, financial reporting, and accounting. The position plays a crucial part in preparing the company for the achievement of financial aims and strategic goals while safeguarding the financial health of business operations.
The primary responsibilities of this role will be to establish systems and procedures, support technical accounting conclusions, and carry out analytics in order to maintain a strong financial reporting control framework. There will be a lot of interaction between our sites’ internal and external audits, corporate controllership, operational finance, and business operations.
Responsibilities:
- Creation of accounting manuals and rules to establish guidelines for employees to adhere to, including the acceptance of new accounting standards
- Lead the creation of financial statement footnotes relating to BU revenue Participate as a key reviewer in the BU financial close process with experience with revenue recognition (ASC 606), including advising management and commercial teams on accounting treatment.
- Assisting with the accounting integration of recent and upcoming purchases
- Participate in the company’s SOX program, which entails testing, documentation, risk analysis, and continuing suggestions for modifications to internal control procedures.
- Drive internal control process and system modifications; interact with and teach internal stakeholders; and remain accessible as a permanent subject matter expert
- Aid in the creation and implementation of new practices and systems to improve the department’s workflow
- Work closely with the sales and operations teams to establish a financial link between the sales of transactions and the executional outcomes.
- To promote successful communication and productive working connections, create and maintain highly effective cross-functional relationships with your coworkers.
- Educate senior management on financial forecasting, modeling, and profitability.
- Coordination assistance with the Company’s monthly external/internal financial and operational reporting tasks
- lead communication with outside auditors on BU matters
- In order to assist the company, prepare and offer ad hoc reporting and analysis as required by Executive management and department leaders.
Requirements:
- 3+ years’ worth of general accounting experience overall, ideally with exposure to Big 4 firms
- Experience with SOX Solid understanding of ASC 606
- Demonstrated expertise in revenue recognition
- Experience in financial reporting is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of month-end closings
- Knowledge of business intelligence and corporate performance management (CPM) systems is necessary.
- Outstanding analytical, numerical, and social capabilities
- CPA certification and a BA/BS in accounting are preferred.
- A background in public accounting is preferred.
