Position Description:

The Senior Financial Analyst will report to the Financial Manager, OCS and will work as part of the Mission Finance team within the Enterprise Operations department, collaborating with other Mission Finance, Finance, and Development personnel. Working in EDF’s matrixed environment, the Senior Financial Analyst will ensure the timely, accurate, and intelligent generation of financial data for multiple stakeholders.

Principal Duties

  • Conduct financial planning and reporting efforts on behalf of the OCS workstream, as well as lead day-to-day financial procedures such as expense reclassification, invoicing, contract financial review, and, as needed, projection updating.
  • In coordination with Operations Coordinators, submit purchase orders and invoices and guarantee appropriate coding of expense items for management approval.
  • Prepare accurate and full month-end reports of actual vs. budget results, as well as investigate, analyze, and explain variations from budget for income and cost line items.
  • Contribute in promoting EDF’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals by creating an atmosphere in which people of various backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to confront environmental and organizational challenges in accordance with EDF’s values.
  • Analyze budget management difficulties and collaborate with workstream workers to resolve them.
  • Compile and coordinate the budgets for fundraising proposals as well as donor financial reporting on allocated revenue.
  • Adjust salary allocations in the budget system to reflect correct funding sources, and make budget and actual modifications as needed.
  • Produce budgets and financial reports for mission employees, internal management, finance staff, and senior operations leads, among others.
  • Handle one or more grants, including government grants, and their associated cash.
  • Help in the creation of annual budget proposals for departments and workstreams.
  • Attend departmental meetings and trainings with both the Enterprise Operations and the OCS teams.
  • Further appropriate responsibilities will be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant experience is necessary, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a similar discipline. A graduate degree may be substituted for two years of experience.
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and reporting experience is necessary.
  • Required is a working knowledge of GAAP as well as a complete comprehension of non-profit accounting concepts and grant management.
  • It is preferable to have prior experience reporting to government grants, foundations, and private contributors.
  • It is preferable to have prior experience with NetSuite or another forecasting/budgeting reporting SAAS.
  • Experience in finance, grants, government financing, or fund accounting in a non-profit organization is strongly preferred.
  • Capability to conduct financial analysis and derive insight from a large-scale general ledger.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, including advanced ability in constructing formulas, pivot tables, charts, and spreadsheets that effectively present data to assist management in making decisions.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to recognize patterns and ensure accuracy.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills, as well as the ability to effectively communicate financial facts to a diverse audience with varying demands.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to multitask and be adaptable under pressure with shifting priorities, are required.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work productively, independently, and collaboratively as part of a team.
