Position Description:

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead projects and teams as the home insurance industry’s software and technology is developed and rethought. We are tackling a complex, regulated business with vigor and creativity as we develop tools and systems that make our customers eager to deal with us and make the duties of our internal stakeholders easier. As a leader, we will rely on you to hire, coach, and mentor high-performing technical teams. You will collaborate with all business units and senior management to gain insights, influence product road maps, and help us accomplish our technical objectives.

A typical day can include:

• Work together with product managers, department heads, and other business units.
• Construct and implement engineering best practices
• Participate actively in the recruitment and hiring of engineering team talent.
• Motivate and direct the team
• Attend code reviews, retrospectives, and business meetings

Requirements:

• Seven or more years as a software engineer
• Three or more years managing and leading technical teams
• Strong mentoring and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor engineers at various career levels.
• Our technology stack (Ruby on Rails and JavaScript) is desirable knowledge.
• Create and evaluate objectives for direct reports and feel at ease offering meaningful feedback to team members. Proven track record of achieving technical business objectives.
• Comfortable working in a startup setting or with uncertainty.
• Data-driven – utilizing data and metrics to drive growth and inform decisions.
• Able to collaborate across teams to address complicated problems
• Locations in the Central or Eastern time zones (CST and EST) are favored.
