A large community of users (analysts, data scientists, technology partners, business/operations teams, etc.) within DPEP and throughout The Walt Disney Company rely on the data, analytics, BI, and machine learning ecosystem that is built, enhanced, and maintained by the Data Products and Platforms organization at Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products (DPEP) (TWDC).

The next-generation data platform and toolkits will be developed and run by the director of technology for data platforms. To make decisions that support the organization’s strategic goals in this highly technical function, one must use critical thinking and business acumen while navigating an environment with little structure and ambiguity. This position is expected to lead a team of managers, architects, engineers, and product managers with a range of impact throughout the portfolio in advancing a data platform strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • In order to enable data and insights self-service and agile data management across the segment, lead the design, development, and deployment of data and analytics solutions in support of the DPEP data strategy and roadmap.
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of the platform, as well as a data-driven approach to ongoing evaluation and optimization.
  • Make that the platform and tools satisfy the needs of cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders.
  • Promote important industrial and academic relationships, conduct market research, and evaluate COTS products in the big data ecosystem to continually improve the data platform architecture to serve the expanding business needs.
  • Use cutting-edge BI equipment as well as new technology prototypes to help teams consume and comprehend data more quickly.
  • Innovative technical solutions that promote access governance, privacy, and data security
  • To supply the newest in machine learning, AI, and other developing technological solutions, create extensible technical structures.

Requirements:

  • Computer science, engineering, math, statistics, or a related discipline with a BS/MS degree
  • 10 years of relevant expertise with data platforms and engineering
  • Knowledge of the most recent research and market trends, as well as in-depth implementation expertise in Data Architecture, Data Warehousing, Advanced Analytics, and Data Science
  • Knowledge of the Snowflake Platform at an expert level, as well as experience with other Data Warehouse platforms like BigQuery
  • Knowledge of the architectures, formats, and standards used by Data Lakehouse, including Parquet and Iceberg
  • Having experience building large-scale, automated, highly available ETL/ELT big data pipelines using Kinesis, Kafka, and Google Pub/Sub
  • Knowledge of data transformation and utilizing tools, particularly DBT
  • Knowledge of orchestration software like Airflow
  • Having knowledge of Query Federation products like Starburst Presto
  • Understanding of data quality techniques and tools like SODA, Datadog, and Anomalo
  • Knowledge of data security and privacy laws, as well as of tools like Privacera and Apache Ranger
  • Knowledge of Corporate Data Governance techniques and technologies, in particular Alation
  • Knowledge of BI (Business Intelligence) consumption software, such as Tableau, Business Objects, SAS, and MicroStrategy
  • A thorough understanding of large data architecture and integration strategies for AI/ML
  • ML solution development and scale-up expertise
  • Extensive knowledge of data science tools including SageMaker, Jupyter Notebooks, StreamLit, and Dataiku
  • Knowledge of MLOps practices and tools, such as feature caching and model management, for applications like SageMaker, mlFlow, Google Colab, Google Data Studio, etc.
  • Understanding of data and ML version management trends and tools
  • Knowledge of ML observability trends and tools
  • You will be working alongside engineers, data scientists, operations managers, and business geniuses to build products and solve challenging problems, therefore you should feel at ease with both technical and commercial duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in mathematics, computer science, statistics, machine learning, or a quantitatively related discipline

This position can be performed entirely remotely or on-site in California or Florida.

The salary range for this remote position, which takes into account different geographic regions, is $198,932 to $266,860 per year. Internal equity will be taken into consideration when determining the basic pay that is actually offered, and it may also change based on the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, abilities, and experience, among other things. Depending on the level and job offered, the remuneration package may include a bonus and/or long-term incentive units in addition to the complete range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
