In order to increase Upstarts’ user base and spur product growth, the company’s Machine Learning and Growth Partnerships team creates models that are used to target marketing campaigns and extend loan offers on partner websites like Credit Karma and NerdWallet. The team is essential to Upstarts’ performance and has a significant impact on revenue.

You will gain a thorough understanding of our models and their interactions with our products as a Senior Data Scientist working on this team. You will be working on a wide range of issues, including as creating and interpreting A/B testing, comprehending pricing sensitivity, analyzing large amounts of data to find and quantify opportunities, and setting up data pipelines and dashboards. A wide range of stakeholders, such as engineers, growth marketers, product managers, and ML scientists, will work with you. Measurable outcomes and cross-functional decision making will be fueled by your work.You’ll need creativity, curiosity, critical thinking, product thinking, and an impact-oriented mindset to succeed in this profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your knowledge of statistical inference, data analysis, and presentation to make a significant difference.
  • Create and analyze A/B testing to improve ML models and products.
  • Create dependable and perceptive metrics to monitor drift and model performance.
  • Engage in dialogue with the engineering and growth teams to provide insights, quantify opportunities, and recommend enhancements for the company.
  • Recognize our models and product to match business success with ML objectives.

Requirements:

Minimal requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in statistics or a closely related branch of study, or equivalent experience
  • Two years of experience in a high-speed setting collaborating with Product, Engineering, and/or Growth teams in the field of data science; two years of expertise manipulating and visualizing data using SQL, Python, or R
  • expertise using statistical analysis, causal reasoning, and A/B testing to inform judgments
  • Ability to communicate data findings to non-technical audiences has been demonstrated

Favored credentials

  • Applied statistics, mathematics, economics, or operations research master’s or doctoral degree
  • Expert in assessing model performance with experience developing dashboards and data pipelines
  • knowledgeable about A/B testing, causal inference, experimental testing, and hypothesis testing
  • Knowledge of predictive modeling methods (neuronal networks, gradient boosting, regression)
