In cooperation with mobile units and remote production facilities, the Audio Comms Specialist II is in charge of providing communications support for live event productions carried out in a DMED facility. Work will be done in a hurried setting for a wide range of shows and events that make use of unconventional production techniques.

The configuration, debugging, and quality assurance of internal intercom communications as well as interconnectivity to other locations during live production are the duties of the Audio Comms Specialist II. They should be well-versed in mobile unit setup and configuration, remote connectivity, and remote production. They are expected to work collaboratively with a variety of teams, including those for production, directing, remote operations, and various DMED technology teams, in order to support the setup and configuration of the technical infrastructure necessary to support each individual production. In order to meet all requirements relating to production, they are also needed to respond to numerous communication demands.

They will be expected to diagnose issues immediately and identify both temporary and long-term remedies. They will be required to collaborate with their colleagues to continuously assess and enhance the control of technical resources and workflows designed to fulfill production requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Support all roles in a REMI or non-traditional production, including producer, director, TD, A1, replay, and graphics, with audio/communications. Work together with DMED/audio/communications ESPN’s partners. Keep your support and troubleshooting interactions professional and open.
  • As technological communication problems develop, establish a strong basis in troubleshooting. When addressing technical concerns and solutions with internal and external stakeholders, make sure excellent communication is used.
  • Take part in training courses (on-site, online, etc.) to advance your career or to learn about any relevant modifications to the operation’s workflow or equipment.
  • Keep up a thorough awareness of the signal infrastructure and flow in the facility. Make sure the appropriate lines are organized, reserved, and ready for every event.
  • Keep track of technical documentation, audio/comms tie line allocation, and resource documentation.
  • To meet the requirements of each live performance, it is expected that production-related audio setups and technical plans be developed and maintained.
  • Supports administrative tasks across several platforms (O365, Smartsheet, SAP)

Requirements:

  • At least four years of relevant experience in TV production, digital platforms, significant broadcast markets, or comparable collegiate broadcast levels.
  • Basic familiarity with all tools and technologies used in TV production in the designated operating regions.
  • Ability to work independently, support several projects, and complete duties in a short amount of time.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including the possibility to work on holidays, weekends, and late evenings.
  • Must be able and ready to adjust to an environment that is continuously changing.
  • Strong organizational, computing, planning, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • The capacity to contribute to a dynamic team.

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of remote integrated workflows, terminology, remote productions, and mobile units at an advanced level.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer network architecture, including switches, VPNs, and IP addresses.
  • Advanced knowledge of the parts of intercom systems, including RTS/Telex, Riedel, and Unity suppliers.
  • Comprehension of the setup for the talent commentator box, covering Setup, Configuration, and Signal Flow
  • Experience with detailed communications infrastructure and/or regional level communications assistance.
  • Shown expertise in Telex/Riedel/Unity infrastructure, broadcast routers, and other broadcast communications tools, processes, and technologies.
  • The capacity to organize a group of peers inside a live production to assign and prioritize tasks in order to meet production requirements.
  • Expected to take part in the preparation of content needed to support all productions, as well as the planning of operational workflows.
  • Expected to take part in workshops and training sessions for other operations staff members. makes suggestions and develops new initiatives to enhance the staff’s operational development. participation in training programs (in person, online, in a classroom, etc.) for one’s own professional growth and/or to learn about any relevant equipment and workflow modifications made inside the operation.

Education: High school diploma, a vocational degree, or an equivalent

Favorite education: possess a bachelor’s degree in communication, studio/television production, or a closely connected field.
