Responsibilities:

• Using paper and electronic medical charts as well as previously applied codes (applied by the team member), performs monthly reviews of each team member’s coded patient charts (before entry into the system). Compares the two to ensure accuracy, takes notes on findings, and shares those findings with leadership and other team members.
• It could be necessary to alert team members individually and directly by phone or email when significant flaws call for concentrated reviews.
• Creates a monthly memo outlining the review’s conclusions and sends it to each team member.
• Conducts probationary reviews for new or disciplined team members and quality assurance reviews for tenured coding team members every month. Feedback is provided as needed.
• Conducts audits or chart reviews with a focus on clients and coders as required.
• Creates, as needed, monthly informational email memoranda for all members of the medical coding team that indicate areas of inadequacy that require concentrated attention.
• Discusses any potential concerns, queries, or difficulties with the Coding QA Management and Coding Management.
• Observe the appropriate attendance and punctuality requirements outlined in the departmental and corporate rules.
• Keep regular work schedules and deadlines in mind. Complete special projects on time and accurately, as well as any other tasks that may be allocated.
• Recognize, uphold, enforce, and abide by the company’s rules, practices, and standards of business conduct and ethics.
• Maintain a positive outlook and treat others with professionalism, courtesy, consideration, and politeness when performing your job.

Requirements:

• Must hold a GED or high school diploma.
• Must be certified as a CPC
• Two years or more of professional experience in medical coding
• Solid familiarity with the R1 Coding Manual strong familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and Tracker Codes Have strong interpersonal, counseling, communication, and time-management abilities.
• Appropriate usage of punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure in written and spoken English
