We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with expertise to join our expanding software engineering team in the United States. We are composed of a number of cross-functional teams, each responsible for a particular aspect of the Oura product. As part of your position on the Checkout Squad, you’ll enhance the resilience and experience of clients purchasing rings from Oura and starting their health journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Join a profitable company with a mission to provide an intuitive user experience, boost online sales, raise brand awareness for Oura, and cultivate client loyalty and retention. D2C and strategic alliances with retail partners are our main priorities.
  • As we grow, play a major role in shaping and defining the architecture and methodology of our backend systems on the Checkout Squad. It will be assumed that you are at ease with technical discovery, planning, directing design reviews, and overseeing feature development from inception to completion.
  • Work together with Oura’s engineering, product, security, and TPM leaders to deliver important business projects.
  • Provide technical knowledge to the team while guiding and coaching a younger generation of engineers.
  • Promote engineering excellence, set important benchmarks, and encourage ongoing operational enhancements.

Requirements:

If you meet any of the following criteria, we would be delighted to have you join our team; however, please don’t worry if you don’t meet them all.

  • Six plus years of expertise in backend development
  • a doer who thrives in a start-up setting; they are goal-oriented, proactive, flexible, and at ease with uncertainty.
  • practical knowledge of handling payments and connecting with Stripe, Braintree, and other payment processors.
  • deep knowledge of the NodeJS ecosystem and Typescript/Javascript.
  • familiarity with Swagger and other tools for API documentation
  • extensive knowledge of automated testing (Jest)
  • knowledgeable about the RESTful design principle and capable of creating extendable, secure, tested, and user-friendly APIs.
  • possess a mindset of operational excellence and be able to plan and construct systems that include logging messages, error messages, and actionable metrics.
  • Use technologies such as Datadog and Sentry to keep an eye on the functionality of our systems and identify any problems or areas for optimization.
  • strong team player and communicator. It should be within your power to help start and lead discussions about your work with the team and product managers.
